Select Fire Sprinkler Heads for the System
Start with the sprinkler-system specification: hazard classification, installation orientation, coverage arrangement, hydraulic design, temperature rating, and required product listing or approval. The fire fighting accessories range includes sprinkler types for different system layouts; the selected model must match that layout.
Temperature rating and response classification are different selections. Common glass-bulb color codes include orange at 57°C (135°F), red at 68°C (155°F), yellow at 79°C (175°F), and green at 93°C (200°F). Use the exact model markings and technical data to select the temperature and response class. A 3 mm or 5 mm bulb diameter alone does not establish the activation time in an installed system.
Match the K-factor and connection. Sprinkler flow depends on the model K-factor and pressure at the sprinkler. Specify the required coefficient and thread standard rather than comparing a flow value without its pressure condition. NPT and BSPT connections are separate options and must match the mating fitting.
Match concealed components as an assembly. The cover plate, sprinkler, temperature ratings, and installation adjustment range must be compatible with the exact model. For project procurement, include the specified UL listing or FM approval and required documentation with the order request.
